The Grammy-Award winning pianist/composer, Pablo Ziegler started two piano programs with world-renown artists including Emanuel Ax, Kevin Kenner, and Christopher O'Riley. During the pandemic, a new piano duo with an award-winning Japanese pianist, Masae Shiwa was born. Both coming from a classical music background, this duo established a new program that includes the work of Bach, Tchaikovsky, Piazzolla, and Ziegler's own compositions. Ziegler's brilliant arrangements for two pianos give the audience a chance to witness the great passion and profound intimacy between the two pianos. The duo performed at the National Auditorium at Kirchner Cultural Center (Argentina) as part of Piazzolla's Centenary Special Program, Sala Sao Paulo Symphony Hall (Brazil), Steinway Hall, the Music & Beyond Festival with a festival orchestra in Ottawa (Canada) and New Otani (Japan).

The U.S. premiere of the piano duo will be at Americas Society in NYC in the spring of 2024. Look for further announcements.

For decades, Buenos Aires-born, Grammy-winning pianist, composer and arranger Pablo Ziegler has been one of the most important figures in Argentine New Tango, the vibrant musical hybrid of classic tango, American jazz, and European art music. After performing in tango grand-maestro Astor Piazzolla’s legendary quintet for over a decade, and appearing on iconic Piazzolla recordings including Tango: Zero Hour, La Camorra and Central Park Concert, Ziegler has led his own groups for over 20 years, refining and reimagining the bounds of the modern tango tradition.

“Pablo Ziegler is made entirely of music: tango – and jazz – seemingly in equal parts. Whether he is playing a simple melody or indulging in a complex, beckoning improvisation, you get a sense that he is inhabiting a completely new world, where the earth spins to the ink-dark rhythm of the tango. This is music at its finest, played in an atmosphere that is singularly free. This is Pablo Ziegler’s world and it is mesmerising, and irresistible.”

Pablo Ziegler & Masae Shiwa Live at Sala Sao Paulo, November 2022:

Pablo Ziegler & Masae Shiwa Live from National Auditorium at Kirchner Cultural Center, Argentina:

“When it came to the performance of “Dos Pianos Quinteto,” Masae Shiwa invited us to imagine a perfect world where everything is in tune with nature; with swirling, sensuous movements of her body in absolute tune – and rhythm – with her hands she beckoned us to go deep inside the heart of the music. Her interpretation of the repertoire was powerful yet pliant; in complete concord with the sinewy masculinity of Pablo Ziegler’s pianism. Shiwa was the epitome of poise, accuracy and pristine delicacy.”
